- Institute DAP – Digital Additive Production “Inventing the Future of Additive Manufacturing”At the RWTH Aachen Chair Digital Additive Production DAP, over 110 passionate researchers are pioneering the future of additive manufacturing and the digital transformation of products and production processes. What’s their goal? To deliver technological breakthroughs that are not just innovative, but also sustainable, economically viable, and environmentally friendly. Their research spans digitalization and networking of production, development of novel materials and manufacturing methods, as well as post-processing and quality assurance. Building on these areas, the chair is committed to promoting the sustainable integration of additive manufacturing and digital technologies across industries.
Institute IWM – Materials Applications in Mechanical EngineeringThe Institute for Materials Applications in Mechanical Engineering (IWM) at RWTH Aachen University focuses its research on application-relevant aspects of materials engineering for metallic and ceramic materials as well as their composites. A particular focus is on powder technology, whereby manufacturing processes are considered from the powder to the component. The research is concentrated on understanding the effects of process parameters or different manufacturing processes on the microstructure, mechanical properties and reliability of components. Both, experimental testing and numerical simulation are used as solution approach. The IWM exhibits a significant experience in handling of various materials, like tool steels, high alloy stainless steels, cast iron, PM-steels, hard metals, intermetallic materials and oxide ceramics.
